I must admit when I was first attending the KH and the talk of the memorial began I honestly thought that we would all have a nice meal and get together afterwards. I was so disappointed at the time. (Not now of course!).

My GF Told Me She Got Invited To Go To Dinner By A Very Nicely Dressed Man
by minimus inget this: she called me up to tell me a well dressed man came to her house and actually invited her for dinner, a "meal" at the local kingdom hall on the memorial evening.. he gave her the invitation to enjoy the meal with him and quite a few other people on the night the "meal" was being served.. i explained to her that the dinner only consisted of wine and unleavened bread and that she could only watch the bread and wine being passed but if she got a hold of the plate or the cup she had to just give it the next person.. she asked, "you mean there's no dinner like he said?
" i answered there was not.
and she said, "then forget it then!"..

Why This Atheist Respects the Jehovah's Witnesses-And why other Atheists should too!
by RaustBD ini'm an atheist, and i'd like to take some time to talk about why i hold a great deal of respect for the jehovah's witnesses, and some words of encouragement that may put an end to the ridicule and disrespect you seem to get from, well, all sorts of people.. .
i never gave this kind of criticism a second thought: i knew nothing about you, and i figured you were just another fringe group of christianity.
i now feel terrible about this, and i wish to apologize for my (admittedly never spoken) disrespect.

I take your point but that said the JWs do talk about Satan a lot, isn't that as bad?
I remember when my husband and I got married you will expect to receive a kind perhaps congratulatory comment wouldn't you? No, a elderly old JW lady said to us "Satan will try and split you up".
This is just one example and surely this is as talking about hellfire is it not?
I look forward to your comment.

The first Jehovah's Witness I ever met is now my wife.
by wyorobert inour story like many of yours is way too crazy and long to tell.
the short version is that i was crazy about my wife from the minute i met her.
she seemed to like me and before we had time to think about anything, she left her husband and religion and moved in with me.

I married a born-in JW. I had previously heard and known about JWs but only the nice bits, it was a complete shock when I attended meetings and conventions.

What Doctrines or JW Views Did You Not Find Too Believable?
by minimus inthe thought that a loving creator would violently destroy anyone not belonging to the jehovah's witness religion including billions of babies seemed just not right.. the fact that you could recieve some "acceptable" blood components but could not donate those same lifesaving yourself seemed strange.
you could recieve a blood fraction but you couldn't give it.. any others you can think of?

Another thing that happened with my husband is:
At the Tuesday night Group as is usual the men took turns to read. The Book Study Conductor sometimes used to overlook my husband's turn but one of the brother used to speak up and say that it was his turn. This brother was not an Elder or anything, so husband took his turn at reading.
However, when this particular brother moved away the Book Study Conductor never allowed my husband to read again.
This was the case when I started attending the Tuesday Group after we married. Often the only males would be the Book Study Conductor, my husband and the brother in whose house the Group was held. Every week without fail the Book Study Conductor would say "whose turn is it to read" and it was always the other brother who absolutely hated reading and had to read every single week.
My husband didn't mind really as he hated reading but he always wished he had said to the other brother that the Book Study Conductor knew he hated reading.
This was this particular Elder's way in trying to force my husband into handing in a report (didn't work though)

I was surprised when I learned that you had to hand in a monthly report of time spent knocking on doors. Seemed very Big Brother.
Before we met my husband had attended meetings relating to assisting on a quick build. However, they then decided that as he did not hand in a report he wasn't allowed to help with the build.
Strange ideas.
